DESCRIPTION: Levitt, Leadenhall Street, London, corrected by B. Gutter & Sons, New York, 8-day marine chronometer, mounted within gimbaled brass tub in a three-tier mahogany box with recessed drop handles, re-silvered dial of approximately 6 inch diameter signed "Levitt, Leadenhall Street, London, No 260, corrected by N. Gutter & Sons, New York," KWKS, fusee-drive with spring detent escapement, free-sprung cut bi-metallic compensation balance with blued steel helical hairspring, spotted gilt damascene, s#260.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, will tick for several seconds and then stop, detent and balance appear to be in order, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some spotting to plates; fine-plus dial with fractures at perimeter at 2 and 6, scattered light surface scratches and spotting; fine-plus hands with light discoloration and oxide; gimbals in fine-plus overall condition, still retains most of the original finish, numerous fine scratches most notably near the winding arbor; box in excellent overall condition, typical fine scratches and dings to surfaces, inner stop missing screw allowing the top to open more that 90 degrees.
